OUR ASSESSMENT

Project assessment & Approval process

All land development, including any resulting from resources industry activities, must comply with the established statutory acts, regulations, policies, and guidelines enforced by all levels of the Australian Government.

Every level of government including Commonwealth, State, and Local have a set of assessment criteria and minimum approval conditions, with a rigorous approval process based on historical, scientific, and technical data from across the sector.

FLORA, FAUNA AND BIODIVERSITY

Extensive flora and fauna baseline studies have been undertaken as part of the environmental impact assessment. These studies will inform our ongoing environmental management plans.

Our overall approach to land management is to only clear where necessary for safe mine operation, define preservation areas and establish a long-term rehabilitation program.

AIR QUALITY MANAGEMENT

The Gemini Project will conduct some dust-generating activity which will result in additional bare earth areas. However, as the locality already has minimal grass cover and unsealed roads which generate dust through wind and traffic the effect on air quality will be negligible.

The Environmental Authority establishes standards for air quality and monitoring. We have completed extensive assessment of existing air quality and this forms the basis of our quality monitoring and reporting to government.

Studies conducted show there will not be an appreciable increase in dust generated in the local area. This means dust will not be generated to an extent that may cause adverse impact to human or property.

WATER MANAGEMENT PLAN

For all our projects to meet the water management conditions set by the environmental authority for mining, we distinguish between mine and agriculture.

NOISE

Extensive assessment of the existing noise conditions have been completed and form the basis of ongoing noise monitoring studies. The studies are assessed against the Environmental Authority standards and report to the government.

We have undertaken noise assessments based on modelling from plant and surrounding existing noise sources such as the Capricorn Highway, the railway line and local road network.

The main source of noise from the project site will be earth moving plant situated below ground level in the pits.

The ground level noise caused by coal handling, storage, movement and loading will be in locations distant from Dingo township residents.

LIGHT

The project is designed to have only specific safety and security lighting with no unnecessary general area lighting. Excavation areas will use portable lighting focused on active work areas to maintain a safe workplace. As such, it is unlikely that light glow will extend beyond the site.

REGIONAL BENEFITS

In order to provide economic and infrastructure benefits to the region, the Gemini Project aims to inject $60 million into the Central Queensland region each year via local employment opportunities and purchase of local goods and services.
